  • Face Face Face by Face Limits Fest

During the 2008 EAST Austin Studio Tour I shot portraits of folks that came through the famous Bearded Lady screen printing shop. It was a wonderful cross section of everyone in Austin. Bearded Lady hand screen printed and displayed all 24 sheets of faces during EAST 2009. It was a great collaboration with a great shop. A collection of prints was also displayed at Bennu Coffee in 2011.

  • Procession of the Species

This weekend was the Austin celebration of the Procession of the Species. A wonderful variety of creatures showed up to tromp around the East side of town. See the whole gallery

  • Karloffian:

This was my runner up idea for the hands idea. I’m really glad I went ahead and shot it too. I wanted to do a Boris Karloff menacing creature shot and I think I got it…

Two Sony 56AM flashes, one over my hands with a larger Speedlight Prokit reflector/grid setup, and one on the ground pointed up towards my face with the tighter/smaller grid spot.

  • Hot Texas Nights:

Ok, I know this one is kind of cheating. I thought we were supposed to start on Thursday for some reason, so I did my first self portrait then.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the style embodied in Noir film, and this is an attempt to capture that style. The lighting is on purpose, but the sweat on the brow and shoulder was not. I was using my garage as a studio and in the Texas heat (even at night) it was just unbearable.
